A team of doctors at the INRA (the National Institute for Agricultural Research in France), conducted studies about the effects of olive oil poly-phenols, on the bones.

The effects were so strong, that a firm from Belgium, Bio-Actor, has licensed the INRA’s patents, to use the poly-phenols ofolive oil, for osteoporosis prevention in supplements, and food and herbal medicines.

INRA researchers tell us, that people eating a Mediterranean diet, have a very low chance of developing osteoporosis. They investigated the effects of olive oil and the compounds in olive leaves, on bone metabolism.

The studies uncovered that oleuropin and hydroxytyrosol, both olive oil phenols, dramatically lessen the inflammation-mediated bone loss, intervened in osteoporosis.

According to World  Health Organization, osteoporosis is the biggest health care problem with aging, followed by obesity, a condition that increases inflammation on the whole body, and especially the bones, where osteoporosis starts.

Today the risk of osteoporosis in women is about forty percent, and in men is about fifteen percent.

A research published in the British Journal of Nutrition, showed that olive oil can prevent inflammation, that causes osteopenia (bone thinning). The study conducted in animals that were fed oleuropin or olive oil daily, for ninety days, recovered their bone density by seventy five percent.

Buy and use your extra virgin olive oil, for good health.
